What We Do

Wiphan Care Ministries is a Zambian based Christian ministry that provides biblical teaching, skills training and education to widows and orphans in Zambia, Africa who have been devastated by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In a population of just under 11 million, nearly one million children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. There are countless homes left without the traditional breadwinners-the fathers. Widows remain helpless and hopeless with no means to sustain their children.

According to UNICEF statistics a child in Zambia is orphaned every 35 seconds from AIDS. This has resulted in helplessness and hopelessness among those left behind. Wiphan Care Ministries was formed by Zambian Christians to respond to this situation and turn orphans’ and widows’ hopelessness into hopefulness in Jesus Christ. Wiphan Care Ministries is a charitable Christian organization looking into both the spiritual and social welfare of the widows and orphans in Zambia.

Wiphan Care Ministries exists to nurture and develop widows and orphans in the compounds outside of Ndola through church and school.  Wiphan’s desire to “look after” widows and orphans comes directly from God’s word in James 1:27.  “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”  Our aim is to relate to the children and ladies in our program through the love of Jesus Christ.  As we develop these relationships through love, service, and community, their spirit is strengthened and we see firsthand how God designed us to love others.

Wiphan has set up two school campuses in neighboring compounds (villages)…one called “Sinia Center” and the other called “Mapalo Center”.  Together these schools serve 400 orphans and vulnerable children as well as 100 widows.  Wiphan schools provide a biblical education, skills training, medical attention and daily meals.  Furthermore, the schools double as as churches on Sundays. The church is the foundation of the orphan and widow care that is administered. It is through the love of Jesus Christ that we desire to love and nurture our relationships with the ladies and children.

Wiphan Care Ministries is run by local Zambian Christians partnering with an American support board in Atlanta, GA.  Americans can be involved through prayer, financial support, and child sponsorship aimed at developing relationships with our children, giving them a broader perspective on life and following Christ.
